What are fillers?

Fillers are injectables that restore volume to certain areas of your face. Adding volume in these areas makes for a more youthful appearance because you lose some of your subdermal fat as you age. Fillers replace missing subdermal fat or add volume in areas where there wasn’t much volume in the first place. 

The results of dermal fillers are entirely cosmetic: The treatment doesn’t have any clinical uses. Usually, fillers remain active and hold their results for one year or longer. Once they wear off, you can come back to Integrated Dermatology of Tidewater for another round of injections if you were happy with the original results. 

At Integrated Dermatology of Tidewater, Emily injects fillers carefully to build up to your desired results. Even though the injections aren’t too painful, she might offer you a topical anesthetic beforehand to reduce any discomfort from them. 

Which fillers are available?

Emily primarily uses Juvéderm® dermal fillers, a high-end line of hyaluronic acid fillers with a range of diverse products. Each product can help you reach a unique set of goals, and Emily tells you which product or products she’ll use for your injections. Available fillers include:

Juvéderm Voluma™ XC

Voluma works well for areas in the middle of your face, like your cheeks. Results of Juvéderm Voluma last for up to two years, and the XC in the name indicates that the formula includes lidocaine, a local anesthetic. 

Juvéderm Vollure™ XC

Vollure works well for softening large wrinkles around your nose and mouth like smile lines. The effects last for up to 18 months.

Juvéderm Volbella™ XC

Juvéderm Volbella is designed for your lips. You can make your lips plumper, improve their symmetry, or soften smoker’s lines around them. 

Juvéderm Ultra XC

Much like Volbella, Juvéderm Ultra XC works for your lips. You can also use it in your periorbital area to soften under eye circles. 

Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC

Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC is similar to Juvéderm Ultra XC, but includes larger particles for more drastic results. Using this product, people commonly target their lips or deep lines around the nose and mouth. 

What changes can I make with fillers?
