PRP FAQ
WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING WITH PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP)?
Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) involves using fine needles to create hundreds of tiny, invisible puncture wounds in the top layer of skin. This virtually painless, in-office procedure stimulates your natural collagen and elastin production to improve skin’s texture, strength, and appearance. Platelet-rich plasma serum is added to the session. This creates a tightness in the skin and speeds the healing process.
WHAT IS PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP)?
PRP comes from your own blood, which is drawn prior to your treatment. Your blood contains high concentrations of platelets and growth factors that help your tissue heal and grow new cells. The platelets are obtained by placing the tube of blood in a centrifuge which separates the plasma from the red and white blood cells.
PRP has been used in many other fields of medicine (orthopedic, dentistry and reconstructive surgery) for years. It has been introduced to the aesthetic world with unprecedented success to help damaged, aging skin grow new collagen elastin.
HOW DOES PRP MICRONEEDLING WORK?
Microneedling works by stimulating your body’s healing ability while pushing targeted serums deep into your skin to optimize their effectiveness. By stimulating collagen growth with microneedling, you can also reverse sun damage and discoloration, including the hyperpigmentation that comes with melasma.
Our Master Esthetician will apply the PRP serum to the treatment areas before using the Skin Pen. As the pen moves over your skin, the serum is pushed into your skin to improve absorption and maximize its effect.
The device makes tiny punctures in your skin that heal almost immediately but trigger your body’s natural healing response, flooding your skin with oxygen and nutrients to repair and build new cells including capillaries and collagen. The collagen plumps your skin from within and the fresh capillaries keep your skin and subdermal tissue nourished and healthy.
Lastly, the esthetician will apply a growth serum.
HOW SHOULD I TAKE CARE OF THE TREATMENT AREA AFTERWARD?
Microneedling is a non-invasive procedure that typically requires no time for recovery. Your skin may be slightly pink after your treatment, this usually subsides quickly. You will want to avoid the sun and vigorous exercise for 24 hours after your treatment. Individual results and recovery times may vary depending on how aggressive the treatment was.
